Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association
The Wright County Sheriff's Office began Explorer Post 641 in
1979. Since that time scores of E641 members have become
licensed police officers and many more entered related fields.
Currently WCSO has 20 former explorers employed as Deputy Sheriffs,
12 of which were from E641.
As a member of E641, the Explorer receives basic training including:
Patrol functions, first aid, firearm safety and marksmanship,
communication skills, leadership roles, teamwork, ethics and history
of law enforcement.
The Post is comprised of approximately 20 youth, ages 14-20, and
eight primary adult advisors. Seven of the Advisors were Explorers
in their youth.
The Explorer Post meets Monday nights through out the year from
7-9pm at the Wright County Sheriff's Office in Buffalo. The
Post recruits new members primarily in early fall from communities
in Wright County but has accepted applicants from outside the county
who are willing to meet the commitments of membership to the Wright
County Post.
Activities:
Members of E641 assist the Sheriff's Office doing crowd/traffic
control at civic events and parades in conjunction with the
Sheriff's Reserve. Explorers also are a part of the Sheriff's
staff at the Wright County Fair in the information and public
resource areas.
Explorers are encouraged to participate in the Ride-Along program
after being trained, and are recognized for by the Post for being
active.
The Post's annual highlight is participation in the Minnesota Law
Enforcement Explorer Conference at Breezy Point Resort.
Explorers get their chance to demonstrate their skill and aptitude
as police officers in various realistic scenarios and academic
sessions. Explorers may also compete in .38cal pistol
marksmanship shoots at the conference.
E641 is a proud member of the Crow River District of the Viking
Council BSA, Learning for Life division. The Post is also a
member of the MLEEA. The Post routinely participates in scouting
events through out the Crow River District and is only one of three
other career oriented Posts in the District, the others being a
Ambulance Post in Monticello and a Fire Dept Post in St Michael.
Some members of the Post are also active with local Boy Scout troops
earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
