Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association
Stearns County Explorer Post # 250 was established in 1979.
Its' main objective is a way in which young people of our
communities from the ages of 15-21 can get a taste of what it would
be like to be a law enforcement officer. Some of the ways in
which they get a taste of being a law enforcement officer is through
our training for state and national competitions, as well as through
our ride along program and many of the special community events that
we work yearly.
Inductions are made into our post once a year generally in
September. Interested individuals must go through a written
application, followed by an interview with an interviewing
committee, which is made up of the officers of the post and two or
three of the advisors. A background investigation is also done
to help with the selection of new explorers.
Explorer meetings are held Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00
p.m. An exception to the start time is when we practice for the .38
caliber pistol competition that takes place yearly at Breezy Point
and every two years at Nationals.

Breezy Point Law Enforcement Competition: Stearns County has been
represented at Breezy Point for 26 years. Breezy Point is a yearly
competition. We compete in up to four of the following scenarios in
teams of four; accident investigation, arrest and search, bombs,
burglary, crime scene investigation, crime prevention, domestics,
street decisions, white collar crime, traffic stops, hostage
negotiation and emergency first aide.
National Law Enforcement Competition: Stearns County also makes it
possible for explorers to compete every two years in the National
competition that rotates around the United States.
Ride Along: Stearns County Explorers also have the availability to
ride along with some of our sheriff's deputies. Some of the criteria
to ride along are that the explorer be in attendance at the meeting
the week of the ride along request, and have completed our minimum
requirements. Some of the requirements are to be first aid and CPR
certified, to have went through county orientation, passed our
10-code test, gone over radio communications, our county's blood
born pathogens class and sexual harassment policy. An explorer must
also be 16 years of age.
