Maple Grove Law Enforcement Explorers is a career interest program for young men and women between the ages of 14 & 21. Exploring provides those that are interested in law enforcement with career information, knowledge and an opportunity to experience police work first hand. This is done by bringing interested youth and police officers together on a weekly basis.

We meet at 6:00p.m. every Monday at the Maple Grove Police Department, 12800 Arbor Lakes Parkway. At these meetings we train in the latest police techniques; including areas such as:

* Domestic Crisis Intervention
* Traffic Stop
* Burglary in Progress
* Hostage Negotiation
* Crime Prevention
* Search and Arrest
* Radio Communications
* Firearms Safety and Competition Shooting
* Bomb Threat
* Much More
Each year the Explorers go to Breezy Point Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota for the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Conference. At this conference we compete with other posts in the events listed. This conference is attended by posts from throughtout Minnesota. The competitions are sponsored and critiqued by agencies such as the FBI, ATF, DEA, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department. Our Explorers compete in practical and academic events covering a wide range of Law Enforcement skills and techniques.

Privileges
Maple Grove Police Explorers have the privilege of riding along with a police patrol officer during the officer's shift. Riding along with an officer at least once a month is strongly encouraged to allow the Explorer to observe the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. More importantly it allows the Explorer to see exactly how police officers deal with real life situations.

Explorers are also encouraged to participate in several police sponsored projects on a regular basis. Some of these include Crime Prevention Displays, Police Auctions, Parades, Maple Grove Days Events, D.A.R.E. Graduations, and Peer Role Modeling.

When applying for law enforcement positions, Explorers have some advantages over the average candidate due to their exposure to law enforcement through the Explorer Post.

Scholarships
There are several scholarships for college available only to Explorers from many different organizations. The Explorer can also earn merit scholarships from several federal law enforcement agencies. The Explorer post regularly earns scholarship money by winning competitions, such as the ones mentioned previously.
